Both Darkseid and Thanos have lingering and manacing histories that date back to the 1970s, but their recent appearances on the big screen have solidified their colossal cultural impact. The varying amounts of speculation and information on MCU’s Thanos and Darkseid from Zack Snyder’s Justice League make a comparison between them a tantalizing affair.
The remarkable performance by Josh Brolin combined with impeccable 3D character art, meant Thanos made a lasting impression in the Infinity Saga. He’s regarded as one of the best villains in cinema history, but don’t discount Darkseid’s just yet. The fact that comic book legend Jim Starlin used Darkside’s aesthetic as inspiration for Thanos is enough to demonstrate how far the character can go.
Most people would pick Thanos as the winner in a duel between the two on account of the Infinity Gauntlet. The Dwarven-made Uru glove allows him to harness the power of six Infinity Stones at once. Because of it, Thanos is the most powerful being the Avengers have ever faced. Thanos is strong enough to defeat the Hulk, from whom he easily sustained multiple attacks. Iron Man gave Thanos his best shots which resulted in a mere scratch. He was knocked down but ultimately undefeated by Thor’s lightning.
Darkseid is so powerful, his younger version Uxas battled against the old gods. Zack Synder said that they were ‘the only ones who could stand against him’. During that battle, Uxas briefly blocks an attack from Zeus before being overpowered by Aries. It’s important to note that this was a younger, weaker Darkseid. By the time of Zack Syder’s Justice League, Darkseid has become much more powerful.
With the Infinity Gauntlet, Thanos holds the most powerful weapon in the universe. Thanos can use each of these stones individually or in various combinations to devastate his enemies. He can destroy entire worlds with a simple snap of his fingers. It’s only natural to wonder what his odds would be without The Infinity Gauntlet when facing an adversary like Darkseid.
Their weapons, minions, and armies are a huge part of these villains’ destinies. Darkseid’s omega beams, his henchmen, and army of parademons are more intimidating than Thanos’. The Anti-Life Equation allows The Lord of Apokolips to control an entire planet and potentially conquer everything in sight. With all the stones in the Infinity Gauntlet, The Mad Titan can destroy half a universe or more with just a snap of his fingers.
The determining factor would really be who uses their trump card first. Considering how theatrical Thanos has been with his use of time in the past, he would probably get omega beamed by Darkside before he gets round to snapping his fearsome fingers. In fact, The Anti-Life Equation should easily be enough for Darkseid to control Thanos and turn him into a parademon.
