Course Structure Part 1: Spirituality and the History of Art (45 minutes) Part 2: Abstraction and Spirituality (45 minutes) Part 3: Digital Deities (45 minutes) This course uses Wassily Kandinsky's book Concerning the Spiritual in art and Robert Farris Thompson's Flash of the Spirit as departure points in a survey of spirituality in art history. Exploring what led to the creation of the first rock paintings, how modern art was shaped by what Wassily Kandinsky called 'inner need' and ending in the contemporary moment, exploring how the 4th Industrial Revolution has influenced artistic intention.
